Overview
Registered in 1980 by E. Minks, this medium-sized hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *H.* 'Crested Reef' and *H.* 'Candle Wax'. 'Green Dome' is visually distinctive for its variegated foliage, featuring green margins that frame a lighter leaf center, and its compact, dome-shaped habit.
In the Garden
'Green Dome' forms a symmetrical clump approximately 24 inches (61 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38 cm) tall, with individual leaves reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the variegation remains stable, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded rock gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Green Dome' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and manage as needed.
