Overview
Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Warwick Comet', 'Green Cups' is a medium-sized variegated cultivar distinguished by its deeply cupped, nearly round leaves with dark green margins and a slightly shiny upper surface. The leaf blade measures 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) wide, with nine pairs of veins and a cordate base.
In the Garden
'Green Cups' forms an upright clump reaching 17 inches (43.2 cm) in height and 35 inches (88.9 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its cupped foliage provides textural contrast when paired with fine-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. The plant's compact habit and distinctive leaf shape also suit shaded rock gardens or the front of woodland borders.
Care Notes
Grow in moist, well-drained soil in typical hosta-growing zones, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Monitor for slugs and snails, which may damage the cupped leaves, and provide supplemental water during dry periods to maintain leaf turgor.
