Overview

Registered in 2002 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Minuteman', 'Green Beret' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, dark green leaves with pointed tips and cordate bases. The foliage is moderately cupped and corrugated, with a slightly shiny upper surface and a very shiny underside, and it bears nine pairs of veins per leaf.

In the Garden

'Green Beret' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded containers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Green Beret' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
