Overview
Registered in 1987 by F. Williams and P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Green Beatrice' is a small variegated cultivar derived from a selected form of *Hosta sieboldii* f. *spathulata*. It is distinguished by narrow, lance-shaped leaves with dark green margins and a lighter center, producing four vein pairs per leaf.
In the Garden
'Green Beatrice' reaches a mature diameter of 15 inches (38.1 cm) and a height of 14 inches (35.6 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact size also makes it a good candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slugs and deer may occasionally feed on the foliage, 'Green Beatrice' is not notably more susceptible than other hosta cultivars.
