Overview

Registered in 1970 by Mrs. John Geissler, *Hosta* 'Green Acres' is a giant-sized variegated cultivar of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive feature is the combination of medium green leaves with slight undulating margins, forming a substantial mound up to 60 inches (152.4 cm) in diameter and 33 inches (83.8 cm) in height.

In the Garden

'Green Acres' is best suited to partial to full shade, where its large, broadly ovate leaves (16.5 inches long by 12.5 inches wide) with 16 vein pairs can develop their characteristic medium green coloration and subtle marginal undulation. At maturity, this cultivar forms an imposing specimen that functions as a groundcover or focal point in shaded borders and woodland gardens. Its substantial size makes it unsuitable for containers but effective when paired with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its scale.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Green Acres' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
