Overview

Registered in 2016 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Lakeside Shoremaster', 'Great Lakes Lighthouse' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its broad white leaf centers framed by medium blue-green margins. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, measure 7 inches long by 6 inches wide, and bear a glaucous bloom on both surfaces; the thin white centers gradually shift to a misty blue-green as summer progresses, and the leaf tips frequently twist.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 16 inches in height and 30 inches in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white centers remain most pronounced, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its cool blue-green tones. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded rock gardens, though it is not typically recommended for container culture.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the broad, glaucous leaves are attractive to both pests.
