Overview
Registered in 2000, this giant hosta was hybridized from *Hosta* 'White Vision' and *Hosta montana* macrophylla. It forms a large, dense mound of green leaves with golden yellow margins, the leaf edges slightly rippled and the blade surfaces dull on both sides.
In the Garden
'Great Lakes Gold' reaches approximately 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and spreads to 66 inches (167.6 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or background plant in partial to full shade. Its substantial size and bold foliage contrast well with finer-textured perennials such as ferns, astilbes, or Japanese forest grass. The moderate growth rate allows it to fill space over several seasons without becoming invasive.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and protect accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
