Overview

Registered in 2009 by an unknown breeder, *Hosta* 'Grass Skirt' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its very shiny, leathery blue-green leaves that form a compact, fast-growing mound. The ovate leaves, measuring 21.0 cm long and 13.3 cm wide, have medium green flat margins, a glaucous bloom on the undersides, and nine pairs of veins.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of approximately 114 cm (45 in) and a height of 41 cm (16 in), with a mound-like habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its compact form makes it suitable for border fronts, rock gardens, or container plantings. The shiny, leathery foliage pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
