Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Grand Tiara', 'Grand Gold' was registered in 2009 by K. Walek with the American Hosta Society. This small cultivar is visually defined by its green leaves with golden yellow margins, a color pattern inherited and refined from its parent.

In the Garden

'Grand Gold' reaches a mature mound height and spread typical of small hostas, with leaves averaging 4.13 inches (10.5 cm) long and 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins remain brightest, and tolerates morning sun with adequate moisture. Its compact size makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, and it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and small woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and use barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
