Overview

Registered in 2013 by originator R. Savory, 'Grain Belt Gold' is a large hosta distinguished by its blue-green leaves with golden yellow, slightly rippled margins. The leaves measure 9.75 inches (24.8 cm) long and 7.75 inches (19.7 cm) wide, with 11 to 12 pairs of veins; they are dull on the upper surface and bear a glaucous bloom underneath.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 33 inches (83.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and performs well in borders or as a specimen plant. Its substantial size makes it a good companion for ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials; it is not suited for container cultivation due to its large mature dimensions.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and employ control measures as needed.
