Overview
Registered in 2009, 'Gosan Sigi Grey' is a giant hosta resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Tokudama' (pod parent) and wild-collected *H. montana* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its heavily corrugated, broadly ovate to oblong leaves with grayish green margins and a dull surface on both sides, a coating that persists until after anthesis.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a large, mound-like clump reaching approximately 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It is best suited to partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its substantial leaf texture provides strong contrast when paired with finer-textured perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Its giant size makes it unsuitable for containers and most appropriate for mid-border or specimen placement in larger garden beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaf substance offers moderate resistance to slugs and deer, though monitoring is advisable in high-pressure areas.
