Overview
Registered in 2009 as a sport of *Hosta* 'August Moon', 'Gosan Moon Skirt' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its golden yellow leaves bordered with broad, flat white to creamy white margins. The variegation remains stable in sun, and the margin does not exhibit the draw-string puckering seen in the similar cultivar *Hosta* 'Lunar Eclipse'.
In the Garden
'Gosan Moon Skirt' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 39.5 inches (100.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial shade to bright filtered light, where the golden yellow leaf center and white margin contrast well. The 20- to 30-inch (50.8 to 76.2 cm) scapes bear lavender flowers in midsummer. Suitable companions include ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium size makes it appropriate for mid-border or groundcover massing.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
