Overview

Registered in 1998 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Fortunei Hyacinthina', 'Goosebumps' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its dark green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a slightly shiny surface on both sides. The variegated foliage, cordate leaf bases, and upright habit create a textured, substantial presence in the garden.

In the Garden

'Goosebumps' forms a broad clump reaching 58 inches (147.3 cm) in diameter and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height, with scapes rising 26 to 33 inches (66.0 to 83.8 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its dark green leaves hold their color without scorching. The large size and upright growth make it suitable as a specimen or in mass plantings alongside ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials; it is not recommended for containers due to its mature dimensions.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While 'Goosebumps' shows typical hosta resistance to deer, slug damage may occur on the broad leaves in damp conditions.
