Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Peanut', *Hosta* 'Goober' was registered in 2009 and is distinguished by its small, mound-like habit and heavily textured foliage. The leaves are nearly round, measuring approximately 4 inches (10.2 cm) long by 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, with dark green margins, a very shiny surface on both sides, and a pronounced dimpled, corrugated appearance that is evident even in young plants.
In the Garden
*Hosta* 'Goober' reaches a mature diameter of 20 inches (50.8 cm) and a height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), forming a dense, fast-growing mound. It is suitable for partial to full shade and performs well in rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border, where its small size and textured leaves provide contrast alongside finer-textured companions such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Its compact dimensions also make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, this cultivar may be browsed by deer and is susceptible to slug damage, particularly in damp conditions.
