Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Outrigger' registered in 2000, 'Gondola' is a giant cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with wide, yellow, slightly rippled margins. The leaves are very shiny on the upper surface with a glaucous bloom beneath, and the plant exhibits an upright, fast-growing habit.
In the Garden
Reaching 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, 'Gondola' is suitable for partial shade to dappled light, typical of most hostas. Its substantial size makes it effective as a specimen or background plant in borders, where its gold-margined foliage contrasts well with darker-leaved companions such as ferns or heucheras. Due to its giant stature, it is not suited for container culture.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Gondola' may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in typical hosta-growing zones.
