Overview
Registered in 1987 by G. Harshbarger and P. Ruh, 'Golden Spider' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with bright yellow-green margins and its compact, low-growing habit.
In the Garden
This small hosta reaches approximately 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height and spreads to 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or miniature hostas. Its compact size also makes it a candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Golden Spider' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are common.
