Overview
Registered in 2012 as a sport of an unnamed parent, *Hosta* 'Golden Needles' is a small, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins and a distinctive medium green flecking throughout the gold base. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 3 inches long and 2.5 inches wide with 6 to 8 vein pairs, have flat margins and a dull texture on both surfaces.
In the Garden
Reaching 8 inches in height and 12 inches in diameter at maturity, 'Golden Needles' forms a compact, mound-like habit suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small cultivars or shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns and heucheras. Its fast growth rate allows it to fill space quickly in shaded areas.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Golden Needles' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
