Overview

Registered in 1984, *Hosta* 'Golden Hawk' is a self-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Hadspen Hawk' (both pod and pollen parent). This miniature cultivar is distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins, a color pattern that reverses the typical gold-centered, green-margined form of its parent.

In the Garden

'Golden Hawk' reaches a mature clump diameter of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and a height of 6 inches (15.2 cm), making it suitable for small spaces, trough gardens, or the front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. Its compact size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, 'Golden Hawk' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents should be considered in areas where these pests are prevalent.
