Overview
Registered in 2005 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Golden Dome' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its deeply corrugated, nearly round leaves with bright yellow margins and green centers. The leaf blades reach 11 inches (27.9 cm) in length and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in width, with 13 to 14 pairs of veins and a cordate base; the flat yellow margins contrast with the slightly shiny green upper surface and dull underside.
In the Garden
'Golden Dome' forms a dense, mound-like clump 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where the gold margins remain bright without scorching. The substantial leaf texture and bold form make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders, paired with ferns or woodland perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves offer good slug resistance, though deer may browse young foliage.
