Overview
Registered in 1984, ‘Golden Cascade’ is a self-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* ‘Gold Regal’, resulting in a medium-sized cultivar with green leaves edged in gold. Its most distinctive feature is the bright greenish-yellow, slightly rippled margin that contrasts with the darker green center, combined with a slightly shiny leaf surface and ovate leaves with cordate bases.
In the Garden
‘Golden Cascade’ performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and forms a clump 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter at maturity. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. Companion plants that thrive in similar conditions include ferns, *Heuchera*, and *Astilbe*.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, ‘Golden Cascade’ is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for these pests and take appropriate control measures in typical hosta-growing zones.
