Overview
Registered in 1989 by P. Bennerup and P. Ruh, this small hosta is a sport of *H. 'Tokudama Flavocircinalis'. Its distinguishing feature is a green leaf center bordered by yellow-green margins, creating a bicolored appearance typical of the Tokudama lineage.
In the Garden
'Golden Bullion' reaches a mature size of approximately 6 inches (15 cm) in height and 10 inches (25 cm) in spread, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or troughs. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the leaf margins hold their gold coloration without scorching. Pair with small ferns, heucheras, or miniature hostas for textural contrast. Its compact habit also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry spells, applying moisture at the base to avoid leaf spotting. Fertilize lightly in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
