Overview
Registered in 2010 by Mark Zilis of the American Hosta Society, 'Gold Seer' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its heavily corrugated, broadly ovate blue-green leaves with bright golden yellow flat margins, a dull upper surface, and a glaucous bloom on the underside.
In the Garden
'Gold Seer' forms a mound-like clump reaching 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 45 inches (114.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for blue-green hostas, where the gold margins maintain their brightness without scorching. The substantial, heavily textured leaves provide strong contrast when paired with fine-textured ferns or broad-leaved companions such as *Heuchera* or *Astilbe*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, to support the large leaves and maintain margin color. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and apply controls as needed.
