Overview
Registered in 2015 by M. Zilis, this small sport of *Hosta* 'Gila River' forms a compact mound of lance-shaped, green leaves with heavily rippled golden yellow margins. The foliage displays a slightly shiny surface on both sides, with leaf blades measuring 6 inches (15.2 cm) long and 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide.
In the Garden
Reaching 9 inches (22.9 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, 'Gold River' is suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins remain most vivid, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas. Its moderate growth rate and tidy mound habit make it appropriate for edging pathways or trough gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing; monitor foliage regularly and apply controls as needed.
