Overview
Registered in 1988 by E. Smith and the British Hosta and Hemerocallis Society, 'Gold Haze' is a medium-sized hosta derived from a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Fortunei Aurea'. It is visually distinguished by its green leaves with golden yellow margins, a color pattern that provides contrast throughout the growing season.
In the Garden
This cultivar performs best in partial to light shade, where its gold margins remain most vibrant without scorching. As a medium-sized hosta, mature clumps reach a typical spread of 18 to 24 inches (45–60 cm) and a height of 12 to 18 inches (30–45 cm). It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials, and is suitable for border fronts or woodland garden settings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Gold Haze' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
