Overview
Registered in 1984 by A. Bloom as a sport of an unnamed parent, *Hosta* 'Gold Flush' is a large cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaves with creamy white to white margins. The leaf blades reach 12 inches (30.5 cm) in length and 8 inches (20.3 cm) in width, with eight pairs of veins, and the plant forms a substantial mound 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height.
In the Garden
'Gold Flush' performs best in partial to full shade, where its green-and-white variegation remains stable and the foliage does not scorch. At maturity, the clump spreads to approximately 2.5 feet (76 cm) across, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. Companion plants with contrasting foliage textures, such as ferns or *Heuchera*, complement its broad, ribbed leaves; the cultivar is too large for most container plantings.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so protective measures should be considered in areas where these pests are prevalent.
