Overview
Registered in 2000 as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Serendipity', 'Gold Bug' is a small, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with medium gold, flat margins. The leaves are dull on both surfaces, cordate at the base, and measure 3 inches (7.6 cm) in both length and width, with nine pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Gold Bug' forms a compact mound 10 inches (25.4 cm) high and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature perennials. Its fast growth rate allows it to fill in quickly in small spaces.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Gold Bug' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
