Overview

Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Go Dorothy' is a medium-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict' (pod parent; pollen parent unknown). It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, blue-green leaves with white margins that are streaked with yellow and white, and for its lightly rippled, lightly corrugated leaf surface with a glaucous bloom on both top and bottom.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Go Dorothy' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching approximately 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, which require protection from strong afternoon sun to maintain leaf color. Its medium size and rounded habit make it suitable for the front of a mixed shade border or as an accent in a woodland garden; it is not typically recommended for containers due to its moderate spread. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials with contrasting foliage textures.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate management measures should be considered in areas where these pests are prevalent.
