Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Glen Luminaria' is a large, mound-forming cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its nearly round, lightly corrugated green leaves with broad, flat yellow margins. The leaves retain a glaucous bloom until August, adding a muted, waxy sheen to the foliage through midsummer.
In the Garden
'Glen Luminaria' forms a substantial mound 20 inches (50.8 cm) tall and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is notably sun tolerant for a hosta, making it suitable for brighter positions than many cultivars, though it performs best in typical hosta-growing zones with some afternoon shade. Its large, rounded leaves and yellow margins pair well with fine-textured ferns or dark-leaved heucheras as contrasting companions.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry spells; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur, though the glaucous leaf surface may offer slight resistance to slugs.
