Year registered2005
Section classIV-7

Overview

Registered in 2005 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Ginsu Knife', this small cultivar is distinguished by its strongly serrated leaf margins and a fountain-like, upright growth habit. The lance-shaped leaves emerge with medium green centers streaked yellow, the streaks and margins maturing to white, creating a tricolor effect on a compact plant.

In the Garden

Reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 25 inches (63.5 cm) in diameter, 'Ginsu Knife Supreme' forms a dense, fountain-shaped clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to dappled shade with consistent moisture, and its moderate to fast growth rate makes it useful for filling gaps among other small perennials such as heucheras or ferns. The upright scapes, 32 to 34 inches (81.3 to 86.4 cm) tall, bear green flowers typical of the genus.

Care Notes

Provide regular water during dry periods, especially in full sun exposure, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur, though the serrated leaf texture offers no particular resistance.
