Overview
Registered in 2000, the small hosta cultivar 'Gilt by Association' was derived from self-pollination of *Hosta pycnophylla*. It is visually distinctive for its green leaf blades edged with gold-yellow margins, a combination that provides clear contrast on each leaf.
In the Garden
With leaves reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in length and 3 inches (7.6 cm) in width, this cultivar forms a compact clump suitable for the front of a shaded border or rock garden. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain brightest, and pairs well with other small hostas or fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns and heucheras. Its small stature makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
