Overview
Registered in 1996, 'Gig Harbor' is a medium-sized hosta derived from a hybrid of *H. 'Tardiflora'*. It is visually distinctive for its rounded, mound-like habit and medium blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins, a glaucous bloom on the upper surface, and a dull underside.
In the Garden
'Gig Harbor' reaches a mature spread of approximately 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 12 inches (30.5 cm), forming a dense, moderate-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its blue-green foliage provides a cool contrast alongside golden-leaved companions such as *H. 'Sum and Substance'* or ferns. The plant's rounded base and moderate size make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and apply controls as needed.
