Overview

Registered in 2010, 'Gift of Sight' is a giant sport of *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' distinguished by its blue-green leaves with white margins and a reflective upper surface that gives the foliage a luminous quality. The broadly ovate, moderately cupped leaves measure 13 inches (33.0 cm) long by 10 inches (25.4 cm) wide, with chartreuse to lime centers bordered by a 0.625 inch (1.6 cm) wide, slightly rippled white margin; the leaf undersides are very shiny to glaucous.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms an upright clump 21 inches (53.3 cm) tall and 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its reflective leaf surfaces catch light. The green scapes, with red bases, rise 28 to 30 inches (71.1 to 76.2 cm) and bear pale lavender flowers in midsummer. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other large hostas.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain even moisture, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Gift of Sight' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed.
