Overview

Registered in 2011 by an unknown breeder, *Hosta* 'Giantland Mouse Cheese' is a small, slow-growing cultivar notable for its green leaves with medium golden yellow flat margins. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, slightly wavy, and measure 2.6 inches (6.6 cm) long by 2.4 inches (6.1 cm) wide, with 7 to 8 vein pairs; both surfaces are dull. The plant forms a compact mound reaching 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with yellow scapes 8 to 10 inches (20.3 to 25.4 cm) tall.

In the Garden

'Giantland Mouse Cheese' is suited for partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its diminutive size makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Mature plants form a tidy mound under 1 foot (30.5 cm) across, pairing well with other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. Its compact habit also suits container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring protection in areas where these pests are prevalent.
