Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Fortunei Hyacinthina', 'Ghostface' was registered in 2000 and is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by blue-green leaves with wide, golden yellow margins. The leaf blades are cordate at the base, measure 8.5 inches long by 5.5 inches wide, and bear eight vein pairs; the margins are 0.75 inches wide, slightly rippled, and golden yellow, while the upper surface is slightly shiny and the underside has a glaucous bloom.
In the Garden
'Ghostface' forms a moderate-growing mound 20 inches high and 42 inches in diameter, with scapes reaching 18 to 34 inches. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is suitable for woodland borders, shade gardens, or as a specimen in mixed perennial beds. Its medium size and moderate growth rate make it appropriate for mid-border placement alongside ferns, *Heuchera*, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Ghostface' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
