Overview
Registered in 2008 as a sport of *Hosta* 'American Sweetheart', 'Georgia Sweetheart' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, feature a 2-inch-wide golden yellow center bordered by flat, medium green edges. The leaf surface is dull on top and slightly shiny beneath, with 10 to 11 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Georgia Sweetheart' forms an upright clump reaching 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold center remains bright without scorching. This medium hosta works well in mixed shade borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in containers. It pairs effectively with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, 'Georgia Sweetheart' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring protection in areas where these pests are prevalent.
