Overview
Registered in 2014, this giant hosta cultivar produces a low, spreading mound of bright golden yellow leaves with green margins. Its distinctive coloration results from a complex parentage involving *Hosta* 'Jimmy Crack Corn', *H*. 'Maekawa', and *H*. 'Choo Choo Train'.
In the Garden
'H. Georgia Sunrise' forms a mound 24 inches (61.0 cm) tall and 56 inches (142.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. Its broadly ovate, corrugated leaves reach 13 inches (33.0 cm) long and 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) wide, with 12 to 14 vein pairs and slightly rippled golden yellow margins. The scapes rise 28 to 31 inches (71.1 to 78.7 cm) and are golden yellow. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it unsuitable for containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur.
