Overview
Registered in 2009 by D. Beilstein and M. Zilis, this medium-sized cultivar derives from a streaked *H.* 'Gold Crown' pod parent and *H.* 'Green Sheen' pollen parent. It is distinguished by its blue-green leaves with golden yellow margins and is named for the eleventh Vice President of the United States.
In the Garden
*Hosta* 'George M. Dallas' forms a mound-like clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its ovate, lightly corrugated leaves with cordate bases and flat, golden yellow margins provide contrast. Its medium size makes it appropriate for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slugs may occasionally damage the foliage, the slightly shiny leaf surface and glaucous bloom underneath offer some resistance; deer may browse the leaves in areas where they are prevalent.
