Overview
Registered in 2012 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Friar Tuck', 'Gemini' is a giant variegated cultivar distinguished by its very shiny, nearly round leaves with dark green centers and light green, disappearing margins. The plant is notable for its heavy substance and the frequent occurrence of two leaves per leaf stalk, a trait referenced in its name.
In the Garden
'Gemini' reaches a mature height of 42 inches (106.7 cm) with a spread of 36 inches (91.4 cm), making it suitable as a specimen or focal point in partial to full shade. Its upright, slow-growing habit and large, substantial leaves pair well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The plant is not suited to containers due to its giant size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. The heavy leaf substance offers some resistance to slugs, though monitoring is advised in damp conditions; deer may browse the foliage in typical hosta-growing zones.
