Overview

Registered in 1993 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sea Gold Star', 'Gaynor Miller' is a large, variegated cultivar distinguished by its broad, cordate leaves with light green margins and a contrasting center. The plant forms a substantial mound reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with individual leaves measuring 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide, bearing 11 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Gaynor Miller' performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegated foliage maintains optimal coloration. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or in mass plantings in woodland gardens and shaded borders. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, and *Astilbe*, which complement its bold leaf texture and muted green tones.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate deterrents are recommended in typical hosta-growing zones.
