Overview
Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Gay Search' is a sport of *H. 'Krossa Regal'* and is classified as a large-sized cultivar. Its most distinctive feature is the medium blue-green leaf with a light greenish-yellow margin that varies in width from 0.2 to 1.2 inches (0.5 to 3.0 cm) and may run into the center, accompanied by heavily rippled leaf edges.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 41.5 inches (105.4 cm) and a height of 22.5 inches (57.2 cm), with an upright, fast-growing habit. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it effective as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slug and deer damage, 'Gay Search' shows no exceptional resistance and may require protective measures in areas with high pest pressure.
