Overview
Registered in 1991 by P. Banyai and J. Dishon, 'Garnet Prince' is a medium-sized variegated hosta derived from a hybrid of *H. nigrescens*. Its leaves feature medium green margins with a satiny sheen on the upper surface, distinguishing it from many green-margined cultivars.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a clump 16 inches (40.6 cm) tall and 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in shaded to partially shaded beds. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its broad, ovate leaves. Its medium size suits it for both garden borders and larger containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
