Overview
Registered in 2016, *Hosta* 'Gandy Dancer' is a large-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Rosedale Black Hole' as its pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, broadly ovate leaves that are held flat while exhibiting heavy corrugation and moderately wavy, slightly rippled margins.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its glaucous leaf bloom is preserved, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial leaf texture and compact habit make it suitable for border fronts or as a specimen in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as both pests may damage the foliage.
