Overview

Registered in 2011 as a sport of an unnamed parent, *Hosta* 'Futura' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its irregular stripes of creamy white and light green that overlay the entire leaf surface, rather than being confined to the margins. Its leaves are green with white margins, but the variegation extends across the blade in an unusual streaked pattern.

In the Garden

'Futura' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching approximately 18 inches (45 cm) in height and 26 inches (65 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and its small stature makes it well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small woodland perennials complement its subdued foliage texture.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Futura' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
