Overview
Registered in 2012, 'Funny Bones' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. Its visual distinction lies in the combination of blue-green leaf centers with gold margins, heavy yellow rippling along the leaf edges, and a green scape flecked with red.
In the Garden
'Funny Bones' forms a mound-shaped clump reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides is preserved. Its small size makes it suitable for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or container plantings; companion plants might include small ferns, heucheras, or dwarf astilbes.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Funny Bones' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
