Overview
Registered in 2003 by P. & J. Ruh, this medium-sized cultivar is a selfed selection of *Hosta* 'Tardiana'. It is distinguished by intensely blue-green, ovate leaves with cordate bases, deeply cupped and twisted form, and a heavy glaucous bloom that gives the foliage a matte, powder-blue appearance. The leaf surface shows moderate folding, light corrugation, and slightly rippled margins, with 14 prominent vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Fumiko' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 18.5 inches (47 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains its color and resists scorching. The deeply cupped, twisted leaves provide strong textural contrast when paired with finer-textured perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*; it also works well as a specimen in shaded borders or woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable for this cultivar in typical hosta-growing zones.
