Overview
Registered in 2016 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Kiwi Full Monty', 'Full Frontal' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its intense blue-green leaf centers and wide, flat, yellow margins. The leaves emerge with bright chartreuse-yellow margins and narrow blue-green centers separated by a fine white line, a pattern that matures to the registered blue-green and gold coloration.
In the Garden
'Full Frontal' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 45 inches (114.3 cm) in diameter, with ovate, lightly cupped leaves 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the leaf color remains truest. Its medium stature and broad spread suit it for mid-border positions or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees, paired with ferns or shade-tolerant perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Full Frontal' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; standard preventative measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
