Overview
Registered in 2003 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Fulda' is a small, mound-forming cultivar derived from self-pollinated 'Tardiana' parentage. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green, ovate leaves with slightly rippled margins, a moderately cupped and folded blade, and a slightly shiny upper surface with a dull underside.
In the Garden
'Fulda' reaches a mature diameter of approximately 18.5 inches (47.0 cm) and a height of 12.5 inches (31.8 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of blue-leaved hostas, and is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture due to its small size. Its compact habit and good leaf texture make it a suitable companion for ferns, small woodland perennials, or other dwarf hostas.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor leaves for feeding signs and manage accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
