Overview
Registered in 2005 by P. & J. Ruh, this miniature hosta originated from *Hosta* 'Yakushima Mizu' as seed parent with an unknown pollen parent. Visually distinctive for its flat, ground-hugging habit and narrow, lance-shaped leaves with a mottled yellow margin that matures to white, 'Fukurin Ko Mame' forms a dense, low mound.
In the Garden
Reaching approximately 7 inches (17.8 cm) in diameter and only 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in height, this slow-growing miniature is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Its compact size and flat growth make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. It performs best in typical hosta-growing zones with partial to full shade, paired with other small-scale woodland perennials such as dwarf ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its small size may reduce visibility to browsing animals.
