Overview
Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Fruit Punch' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Urajiro Hachijo'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Crested Surf'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with heavy, rippled gold margins, a red scape base with greenish yellow speckling, and its relatively tall scapes for a small plant.
In the Garden
'Fruit Punch' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or fine-textured groundcovers that complement its gold-margined foliage.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. 'Fruit Punch' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, typical for hostas, and may benefit from protective measures in high-pressure areas.
