Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Frosty' is a large, fast-growing cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its broad, blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a thin glaucous bloom on the upper surface, which gives the foliage a frosty appearance.

In the Garden

'Frosty' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter. Its large leaves—up to 11.5 inches (29.2 cm) long and 10 inches (25.4 cm) wide—make it suitable as a specimen or accent plant in partial to full shade. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Due to its substantial size, it is not recommended for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Frosty' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
